The made-in-America scorecard

Garage doors are bulky, freight-sensitive products, which is one reason the industry never offshored the way electronics did. Here is where the doors we see in the OKC metro actually come from:

Note the two different questions hiding in one: where is it built, and who owns the company. Amarr doors are pressed in Kansas by a Swedish-owned firm; CHI doors are Illinois-built under American steel giant Nucor. All four brands we install as an authorized dealer, CHI, DoorLink, Haas, and Mid-America, check both boxes, which was a deliberate choice on our part.

The asterisks worth knowing

• Components travel: even on a US-built door, rollers, fasteners, and some hardware can be imported. The sections, the part you see and the part that fails or does not, are domestic.
• Openers are the imported half: Chamberlain Group and Genie design in the US but assemble most units in Mexico and Asia. There is no meaningful made-in-USA option in mainstream residential openers, so weigh dealer-grade build quality instead; our retail vs dealer opener comparison covers that.
• Mid-America is the local angle: built 100 miles from OKC in Ponca City. For section matching speed after a storm, nothing beats a factory in the same state.

Why the plant location pays you back

Patriotism aside, domestic manufacturing has three cash consequences. Lead times to Oklahoma run two to four weeks instead of a quarter. Freight damage is rarer because doors travel crated on dealer routes, not container-ship-then-liftgate. And years later, when hail takes out two sections, a US factory still running your panel design means a far cheaper section repair instead of a full replacement.
