CHI Overhead Doors has manufactured on one campus in Arthur, Illinois since 1981, and since 2022 the company has been owned by Nucor, the largest steel producer in the United States. That matters more than it sounds: the coil steel in a CHI skin now comes from the same corporate family that rolls it, so gauge and coating consistency runs tighter than what we see from brands that shop steel on the spot market.

On the insulated lines, CHI bonds two steel skins to a foam core so the whole section works as one stiff panel rather than a thin skin over air. Hinges land on full-height steel end stiles, not plastic blocks, and the finish carries a long warranty against peeling on most residential models.

How CHI doors handle Oklahoma weather

The honest test of any door in the OKC metro is a spring hail season. After storms roll through Moore, Yukon, or Edmond, we replace a lot of dented builder-grade doors, and the pattern is consistent: thin single-layer pans crease badly while foam-backed CHI sandwich sections either shrug off the hit or take shallow dimples an insurance adjuster may not even flag. The foam core acts like a backer board behind the steel.

• Wind: CHI sections accept extra struts and heavier track for gusty exposures, which we routinely add on west-facing doors in open areas like Piedmont and Tuttle.
• Heat: polyurethane models in the R-13 to R-18 range keep an attached garage 15 to 25 degrees closer to house temperature in August.
• Finish: the baked-on paint resists the chalking we see on cheaper doors after five or six Oklahoma summers.
