Do I need to be home during my garage door installation?
No. As long as the crew can get into the garage and reach a power outlet, you can be at work the entire time. Most customers meet us for ten minutes at the start or simply leave the door unlocked, then do the final walkthrough and payment by phone. Being present is helpful, not required.
What we actually need from you
A garage door install is noisy, self-contained work that happens almost entirely inside your garage and on your driveway. The crew brings the door, tools, and hardware. From you, we need exactly three things:
- Access. An unlocked side door, a keypad code, a smart lock code, or a neighbor with a key all work. If the old door still operates, opening it before you leave for work is enough.
- Power. A standard 120V outlet in or near the garage for drills and, if an opener is going in, the ceiling outlet it will plug into.
- Clear space. Vehicles out of the garage and roughly four feet of clearance along the walls and ceiling line where the new tracks go.
Decisions were already made at the estimate stage: door model, color, windows, insulation. Installation day has no surprises left in it unless we open up the framing and find rot, and in that case we call you with photos before touching anything, the same way we handle it on rotted framing jobs.
Why the final walkthrough matters
Whoever is available at the end, in person or on the phone, gets a five-minute rundown that is genuinely worth having:
- How to use the emergency release cord and reconnect it, which matters during ice-storm power outages that hit the metro most winters.

- Where the manual lock points are, if your door has them.
