How door types stack up by cost tier
We install doors from CHI, DoorLink, Haas and Mid-America every week across the metro, so this ladder reflects what we see on local jobs rather than national roundups that lump in coastal labor rates. Here is how the types rank for a standard 7-foot-tall door, single or double:
| Door type | Price tier | What you are paying for |
|---|---|---|
| Non-insulated steel, builder grade | Most budget-friendly | Single-skin steel, basic hardware |
| Insulated steel (polystyrene) | Mid-range | Foam backer for stiffness and R-value |
| Insulated steel (polyurethane, high R-value) | Upper mid-range | Bonded core, best thermal performance |
| Carriage house / faux wood look | Premium | Designer overlays, embossing, finishes |
Windows add to the bid depending on the glass, and upgraded hardware like decorative handles or premium tracks adds a little more. If you are pricing a double specifically, our breakdown of what a 16x7 door costs installed goes deeper on that size.
Why Oklahoma pricing has its own logic
Two local factors matter more here than almost anywhere else. First, wind. Homes in Moore, Newcastle and south OKC sit in some of the most tornado-active real estate in the country, and a garage door is the largest opening in your house. Wind-rated doors with heavier struts and reinforced tracks cost somewhat more but dramatically reduce the odds of a blow-in that takes the roof with it. Second, hail. Thicker 24- and 25-gauge steel shrugs off spring hailstorms that dimple cheap 27-gauge panels, which is worth remembering when an insurance check is funding the replacement.
Insulation earns its keep here too. An uninsulated west-facing door in Yukon or Mustang can push an attached garage past 115 degrees in July. A polyurethane-core door with an R-value of 12 or higher keeps that same space 15 to 20 degrees cooler.
What an installed quote should include
- The door itself, new torsion springs sized to its weight, and new track
- Removal and haul-away of your old door
- Labor, leveling and safety testing, plus reconnecting your opener
- A written warranty covering both the product and the workmanship
If a quote is dramatically cheaper than everyone else's, something on that list is usually missing. Our garage door installation quotes are free and itemized, and if you would rather spread the cost out, financing is available on new doors.
