What drives the price of one section
Garage doors are built from horizontal sections, and each one is a specific product: a 16-foot insulated CHI section with a certain panel emboss and color is not interchangeable with anything else. Pricing moves with four things:
- Width. A 16-foot section costs considerably more than a 9-foot one.
- Construction. Insulated double-skin sections cost noticeably more than hollow single-skin steel.
- Position. Bottom sections carry the weather seal and bottom brackets and cost more to swap. Top sections may carry the opener bracket and struts.
- Freight. Sections ship oversized. If your door model is not stocked locally, freight from the factory adds to the quote and can mean two to four weeks of waiting.

When one panel makes sense, and when it does not
Replace the single panel when the door is under about 10 years old, the damage is cosmetic or limited to one section, and the model is still in production. That is the classic backed-into-the-door-at-7am scenario we see weekly from Edmond to Moore, and it is a sensible, budget-friendly fix.
Skip the panel and put the money toward a new door when any of these apply:
- Two or more sections are bent, which usually means the frame took the hit too
- The model or color is discontinued, leaving you with a mismatched stripe across the front of your house
- The door is 15-plus years old, because sun-faded paint means even a factory-match panel will not match
- The quote for panels and labor climbs close enough to a new-door quote that replacement is the better value
The Oklahoma hail wrinkle
After a spring hailstorm rolls across the metro, insurers treat garage doors as part of the dwelling, and a door dimpled across every section is typically approved for full replacement rather than panel work. If only your top section caught hail but the adjuster totals the roof, ask them to look at the door in the same claim.
