Do garage door companies charge extra for nights and weekends?

Answered by the Affordable Door Co team · Updated February 22, 2026

Quick Answer

Most do. Industry-wide, after-hours garage door service typically adds a flat surcharge or bills labor at time-and-a-half, and holidays can double the rate. Affordable Door Co is the exception: we answer 24/7 across the OKC metro and charge exactly the same price at 2 a.m. on a Sunday as we do at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday.

How after-hours pricing usually works

Garage door failures do not keep business hours. Springs snap in the cold snap at 6 a.m., openers die when you get home at 9 p.m., and doors jump track when you are backing out for a Saturday soccer game. When that happens, companies handle the math three ways:

  • Flat emergency surcharge. The most common: a fixed fee stacked on top of normal repair pricing the moment the clock passes 5 or 6 p.m.
  • Overtime labor rates. Time-and-a-half or double-time labor, which turns an ordinary spring job into a noticeably bigger invoice.
  • "Emergency" menu pricing. A separate, higher price sheet that only comes out after hours, so you cannot compare it to daytime rates.

Holiday calls are the steepest. A Christmas-morning repair at double rates is a real invoice we have heard described by more than one new customer who called us the following year instead.

Why we killed the surcharge

Our techs are already on call around the clock, our trucks are already stocked, and a broken spring costs us the same to fix at midnight as at noon. Charging you more because you are stranded felt less like pricing and more like a penalty for bad luck, so our emergency service runs on one price sheet, 24/7/365, everywhere from Oklahoma City and Norman out to Mustang and Choctaw. Average response is 20 to 50 minutes.

That structure also removes a subtle trap: when a company profits from emergencies, "this cannot wait until morning" becomes a sales line. With flat pricing, if your problem genuinely can wait, we will tell you so and book you for daylight.

What a fair after-hours call should look like

Whoever you call at night, insist on the same things you would in daylight: a stated price for the visit before the truck rolls, a written quote before work starts, and parts pricing that matches daytime rates. It helps to already know what jobs cost in normal hours; our answers on spring replacement pricing and service call fees give you those baselines. If a 9 p.m. quote lands far above them, the surcharge is doing the heavy lifting.

And if the door is stuck open at night, do not sleep on it in the literal sense. An open garage in the metro is an invitation, and most burglaries of attached garages happen through doors left open or inoperable. That is the one scenario where we always recommend the immediate call to (405) 247-0336, because with us the price is the same either way.

Stuck at Midnight? Same Price.
