Should I buy a garage door from a big-box store or a local dealer?

The sticker price is not the installed price

The door leaning on a store rack in northwest OKC carries a tempting tag, but nobody drives home with a garage door. By the time the retail path adds measurement fees, installation labor, spring and track charges, haul-away, and tax, the finished number looks very different from the sticker. A dealer quote is built the opposite way: the quote you get is the number you pay, with tear-off, new springs, new track, and new perimeter seal already inside it. Compare finished numbers, never rack tags.

Six differences you will feel over ten years

• Who shows up: big-box installs are farmed to third-party subcontractors paid by the job. Our installers are the same techs who will stand in your driveway again if anything needs adjusting.
• Hardware spec: retail packages commonly include lighter track, builder-grade rollers, and minimum-cycle springs. Dealers spec hardware to the door's actual weight.

• Warranty path: with a dealer, product and labor warranty live at one company. With retail, the store covers the product, the subcontractor covers workmanship, and a year-three problem invites finger-pointing.

When the big-box route is genuinely fine
