Why is my opener light blinking while the door refuses to move?
The blinking light is a diagnostic code, and in roughly 7 out of 10 cases it means the photo-eye safety sensors near the floor are blocked, misaligned or unplugged. Count the flashes, check that both sensor LEDs glow steady (not flickering), and clear anything in the beam path. If the sensors check out, suspect the lock feature or a wiring short.
Decode the Flash Count
On LiftMaster and Chamberlain units the main light blinks a specific number of times, pauses, then repeats. That count is the error code:

The Two-Minute Sensor Check
- Look at both lenses. One sensor sends (usually an amber LED), the other receives (green). The green LED flickering or dark means the beam is broken.
- Clear the path. Trash cans, shovel handles, cobwebs and even thick morning fog can interrupt the beam. West-facing garages in neighborhoods like Yukon and Mustang get another gremlin: low evening sun glaring straight into the receiving eye. A short cardboard sun shade over the lens solves it.
