Do new garage doors come with springs and hardware included?
With professional installation, yes: springs sized to the door weight, new tracks, rollers, hinges, cables, drums, and weather seal are all part of the quoted price. Buying a door retail is different; box-store doors often ship without torsion springs or with hardware graded below what an Oklahoma wind zone deserves. Always confirm the parts list in writing.
What a complete door package contains
When we quote a door installation in the metro, the number covers a full operating system, not just painted steel:
- Torsion springs selected for the actual door weight, not a generic size. A 16x7 sandwich door and a 16x7 pan door can differ by 100 pounds and take different springs.
- Vertical and horizontal tracks with the correct radius for your headroom.
- Rollers, hinges, and top/bottom fixtures. Hinge numbers increase toward the door edges for a reason; the kit includes them all.
- Cables, drums, center and end bearing plates, and a shaft.
- Struts as required by the door width and wind package, covered in depth in our strut answer.
- Perimeter stop with weather seal and a new bottom astragal.
- Labor, haul-away, opener reconnect, and balance testing.
Where retail buyers get surprised
Big-box stores sell doors as sections in cartons. Depending on the SKU, the carton may include hinges and rollers but exclude the spring system entirely, because shipping wound-ready torsion hardware to untrained buyers is a liability nobody wants. The gaps a retail buyer ends up filling:
